Classic Commands

Have you ever wanted to get back that old layer dialog box?  How about the xref one? Even in AutoCAD 2013 you still can use some of the classic or legacy commands.  Simply start to type classic at the command prompt and “AUTOCOMPLETE” will show you all of the available commands that begin with classic as shown in the image below.

We will select the CLASSICXREF command and the following dialog box will appear.   Although I do not recommend making a habit of this sometimes when you are stumped or just need to see and old friend, don’t worry.  They are still there just hidden with a prefix of classic!

Note:  The array command is one exception.   That command can be accessed by typing arrayclassic.
